Festival Day 2 - 9th March !
Monday, 21 March 2011
Festival Day 1 - 8th March
We all had to meet up at the lower school at 8:45am to get marked in as present and also get on the coach for 9:00 am.
We got on the coach a bit late because there were people who didnt get to the lower school on time so we had to await their arrival. When they arrived we finally started our journey to the SouthBank Queen Elizabeth Hall (QEH), where the festival was going to take place for the 2days.
It took us about 45minutes to there. When we arrived we went through the back door of the QEH. We had to get all our eqipments from the Van and set up and get rehearsals done befire our first audience shows up to the Festival.
Before we could start rehearsals we had to setup the stage settings and make sure sounds were working properly, set up the steel pans in the right order (which took quite a lot of our time), set up the drum kit (which takes skill and good memory since it has a lot of parts to it), set up the viewng screen with a set of chairs for the audience to sit on while watching whatever it is on the screen, we setup the main stage chairs where the audience are going to come together and watch a performance. The DJing decks had to be set up at two posts, one on the main stage and one on the far end of the room for presentation use.
When everything was ready we started with steel pan rehearsals because there were people who still didnt know parts of other song that we were playing so we spent alot of time trying to get it right over and over again till it sounded good enough. The dance performers had to rehearse even more since they wern't ready to perform so they had to work even harder so that they could be fitted into the schedule for performances for the day. They had an option where they could either practice or just not do the performance. Luckily they got the dance right and performed.
The DJ's had to practice playing their songs to get an idea if what to play after each other. Two of the DJ's had to go over the mix for the dance performers since tgey were going to mix while they were dancing to it.
After reahersals were done, it was time to start the festival (morning). we had a route of how the audience and festival are goint to run smoothly.
Everything went well for the morning performance. After all shows were done we fed our first audience lunch and then they headed back to school and we had 1hr lunch break so we decided to explore SouthBank.
Later on in the afternoon everything had to be done again for our next audience. We got ourselves ready and in place and with music in the background everything went well again. The performance were good and much appreciated.
We had to pack everything up and put them in the QEH stage for tomorrow's use !

Preparations For Festival 5-7!
- The performers had to go into the hall with the dance teacher (Ms Shrubb) to practice the dance over and over again from period 1-2 (2hrs). they went over the beginning of the dance to see the formation and how good it looks.
The production team were split up into different groups where they had responsibilites shared between them. A few people had to come up with routes of how the audience are to be taken around to watch the performances and viewings and also the timings and place.
- Some had to make a rota of what's going to be showcased first, for example... Steels Pans first then Bollywood Movie... And this will be used for the 2day festival.
The others had to look at the Human Rights Photography and choose the best ones that protray stereotypes to showcase at the festival. Also in regards to the types of audiences tha we have, such as primary school children, they had to have a separate photgraph work as they may not be suitable for the children to see since it may be disturbing to their eyes.
- The productions managers had to come together and come up with a blurb to sum up the whole festival. They had to explain what is going to be shown at the festivsl and what the audience are going to see and perhaps enjoy and be entertained throughout.
- The DJing group had rehearsals from Period 5 till 4pm every tuesday untill the week of the festival. We had to come up with a playlist of songs of our own choice of about 7tracks. practice playing the sets of music that we have and know the queue points.

Preparations For Festival 4 !
During first and second period we went into the hall and tried to remember the dance and practice it over and over again. We went over the first part of the dance which was the ballet music to a street dance, we only remembered this part of the dance and it was the beggining so we decided to focus on that part and get it perfect or at a good enough standard of performance.
we also tried to come up with some new dance moves to fill in the blanks.
After lunch we came back together to try and finish off any coursework that needs to be finished off only if we have no more work to do on the festival at the moment.
At 4th period Ms Williams came back. With me with her we discussed about the rehearsal times for the Steel Pans and DJing fo that they can be ready for next week so we have enough time before the festival.
We decided to start the DJing next week on Tuesday so we have about 3hrs of rehearsal or more. And Steel Pan will start in about two weeks or after holidays to get a full 3hrs of rehearsal so we know what we're doing.
Meeting At Gold Coast (4th February 11)
We still got to look around and take pictures of the spots were were going to have some Screenings, Photgraphy, Art, Dance, Drama and where the decks for DJing and the steel pans will be set out.

Preparations For Festival 3 !
We planned on arranging meetings with the head of Music (Mr Fox)and Dance (Ms Shrubb)For some assitance in preparation for the festival by asking some of their groups to perform at our festival such as the Yr11 And Yr8 Steel Pans And Creative And Media Steel Pans and And the Dance on Stereotypes.
I made a 'To Do List' to have everything organised so we know what to do next according to our action plan :
Action Plans !
· Plan what’s going to happen during rehearsals and how it will be set out.
· For Yr11 Steel Pan and Creative And Media.
Get in contact with Mr. Fox to set out a date or day where they can rehearse the two or more songs that they will showcase at the festival.
Talk To Mr Fox On 2nd Feb 2011
Keep track on them and their sound
Set a day when we will be able to listen to them play and have a selection of the two good songs that sound appropriate for us before the deadline.
· Get in touch with Nigel from Point Blank DJ Course to give us about 2-3 weeks (2-3days)of extra rehearsals to get in the habit of knowing how to work the decks again.
Ms Williams – Email Tonight 1st Feb 2011
· Talk to Ms Shrubb about the music for the stereotype dance and get a copy of the CD to go over the dance a few times to refresh our memories.
*At the end of the day we decided to use The Gold Coast as our Venue for the festival. So on that upcoming Friday we had a scheduled meeting there to discuss if we could use the place for two days...*
The next day i decided to talk to Mr Fox about our festival and what we need for it to fill up. He agreed with giving us some rehearsal times and having his Yr11 and Yr8 steel pans for for us in the festival and he also agreed with the music choice and said ''no problem''.
I also recieved the CD from Ms Shrubb on the same day and gave both both Mr Fox and Ms Shrubb a copy of the brief so they know what we expect.

Preparations For Our Festival 2 !
Today in creative media we were given a little more time to complete our Research On Festivals.
We were give about 3hours to complete and present it to our fellow students in groups by the end of the hour.
After we completed that we were told to come together and get more information about the festival.
We were told that we will be divided into groups to bring the festival together but first our teachers explained to us the brief again. Then they told us that we have a to come up with a venue were we're going to hold the festival.
So we came together to brainstorm good venues that would suit our type of Festival. We needed a place where it has a wide capacity and also reachable for our audience (but we thought of hiring coaches for our audience to and from if the venue is too far). We were all told to pitch in to give ideas to get good marks for overall involvement.
We came up with venues that would fit our festival theme which is Stereotypes. We thoought of clubs and churches.
At the end of the brainstorming we were divided into groups to research on our ideas and find out if we could use them.
Preparations For Our Festival !
First week back to school and to creative and media diploma we got straight to work.
Before we started anything we had to get into the rooms. When we were settled we were introduced to the plan for the term and what we had to accomplish in a short time.
We were told more about the Festival that were have to hold during early March. Before we come up with ideas we had to research about festivals that are of performing arts which involves us diploma students.
We were given a task to research 5 different types of festivals not only based in London but also around the world if possible. we were given the whole day to do so either on computers, laptops or macs, so that everyone will have the oppotunity to finish their research in time before the deadline.
We were given some ideas of festivals such as Glastonbury Music Festival, Festival Of Lights, and many more.
I chose to do a variety of festivals from different cultures. I chose to do 'The London Jazz Festival', which i have attended
'La Tomatina', which I studied in Spanish,
'Ghana Party In The Park', which is a fun festival which i attend almost every year to celebrate history including dance, music and bascially performing arts,
'Cannes Film Festival' which is based in France for a celebration of films and their stars,'
And also chose the 'Glastonbury Music Festival'
For each and everyone of the festivals that we researched we had to find out about them and why they are done and their sponsers, and how they started and how it is done aswell.
